SHILLONG : In a move to boost tourism in Sohra, Governor Ranjit Shekhar Mooshahary on Monday inaugurated two major projects for tourist amenities at Nohkalikai Falls and Mawsmai cave which include kiosks, a parking lot, toilets and ticketing counters constructed at the cost of Rs 21 lakh each.

SHILLONG: The Centrally sponsored midday meal (MDM) scheme for school-going children has not been implemented in Meghalaya since October 2008 because of non-release of the State's quota of rice by the Union Government.

SHILLONG: Lyngkyrdem village, about 50 km from the State capital, is grappling with a crisis that is worse than the one facing Sohra, the wettest place on earth.

Inhabitants of Lyngkyrdem toil day and night for a bucket of potable water. Let alone pipe or tap water, even natural sources of water in the village have almost run dry.

Guwahati: A 62-year old tourist from the Netherlands was trampled to death by a wild elephant inside the famous Kaziranga National Park in Assam on Tuesday. The tourist has been identified as Robert Goldbach.
