LUCKNOW: Good news is in for power starved Uttar Pradesh. By April, the state would be richer by over 1400 MW, raising hope of respite from power cuts in summers.

To begin with, the first unit of the 600 MW at Anpara C is likely to get operational from February 15.

LUCKNOW: Moving ahead with its renewed power policy to set up thermal power plants in the private sector, the UP government on Tuesday entered into an agreement with Bajaj Hindustan for setting up a 1980 MW thermal power plant at Bargarh in Chitrakoot.

LUCKNOW: The energy task force (ETF) headed by the chief secretary gave its nod to the establishment of a 1,980 mw power plant in Bargarh (Chitrakoot) on Friday. For this the state government would sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Bajaj Hindustan.

The ETF also looked into the possibilities of the project's expansion by adding another 1,980 mw.

LUCKNOW: In a major step towards energy conservation, the North Eastern Railway (NER) has decided to run its three offices of divisional railway managers (DRMs) on solar power. General manager UCD Shreni announced here on Wednesday that DRM offices of Lucknow, Izzatnagar and Varanasi would switch over to solar power from March 2011 onwards.

LUCKNOW: The state government appears pushing the ball hard in the Centre's court over the prevailing power crisis in UP. First, it complained about insufficient power from the Central pool, and now the state government has lodged its apprehension about power production in UP being hit by an insufficient coal supply.

LUCKNOW: Around 7,400 electricity consumers in Lucknow got registered under the Self Load Declaration Scheme, which was initiated by UP Power Corporation Limited (UPPCL). Total load which was enhanced in the process stood at 13,067 Kw.

LUCKNOW: As if the prevailing power crisis following tripping of thermal power units in the state was not enough, employees of UP Power Corporation (UPPCL) threatened of going on a two-day strike beginning Tuesday in protest against proposed privatisation of power distribution in Kanpur.

LUCKNOW: This summer, UP is on the precipice. With five major thermal power stations having tripped in the last five days, the state grid has lost 1,000mw of the total input of 2,500mw per day. Besides, one plant is in a shut-down mode for the last one-and-a-half years for renovation work.

LUCKNOW: In a bid to propel expansion in power sector, the Uttar Pradesh government has accorded status of industry to all new power projects coming up in the state. A proposal to this effect was cleared by the State Energy Task Force (ETF) at its meeting presided over by chief secretary Atul Kumar Gupta here on Wednesday.
