Air quality in the Delhi National Capital Region (NCR) has been a matter of concern.

The Ministry of Environment and Forests targets 35% reduction of air pollution in the next three years and 50% reduction in the next five years for at least 100 cities across India. The listed cities will have their own city-specific action plans.

In exercise of the powers conferred by sections 6 and 25 of the Environment (Protection) Act, 1986 (29 of 1986), the Central Government hereby makes the following rules further to amend the Environment (Protection) Rules, 1986, namely:- These rules may be called the Environment (Protection) Amendment Rules, 2017.

India unveiled the third National Wildlife Action Plan for 2017-2031 spelling out the future road map for wildlife conservation. The third action plan comes after the first plan in 1983 and second from 2002 till 2016.

The new rules, notified by the environment ministry, decentralise wetlands management by giving states powers to not only identify and notify wetlands within their jurisdictions but also keep a watch on prohibited activities.
