This guidelines focus on the BRT environment and assume that interested parties can take advantage of existing guidelines to clarify general issues of access to public space, buildings, and pedestrian infrastructure. The guidelines generally follow the travel path of a passenger using a full-featured Bus Rapid Transit system.

This paper discusses both occupational health risks to workers and environmental health risks to residents and workers. Because worker exposure times are shorter than resident exposure times, some risks may be less for workers than for residents. On the other hand, contaminant levels to which workers are exposed can be significantly higher than those that reach residents, thus leading to increased risks for workers over residents.

This paper examines the impacts of measures to reduce emissions from passenger transport; specifically, buses, cars and two-wheelers. These include the possibility of converting diesel buses to compressed natural gas (CNG), as the Indian Supreme Court required in Delhi, which would necessitate an increase in bus fares to cover the cost of pollution controls. It also considers raising the price of gasoline, which should affect the ownership and usage of cars and two-wheelers, as well as imposing a license fee on cars, to retard growth in car ownership.

This book intends to assist in the design of appropriate strategies for controlling the impacts of urban air pollution, from mobile sources. It considers only the direct air impacts of surface transport, excluding aviation, marine transport, non-road vehicles (such as bulldozers and mining equipment), noise pollution, habitat fragmentation, and waste disposal of scrapped vehicles.
