Delhi is set to become the first kerosene-free city in the country with the city government all geared up to launch an ambitious scheme on Tuesday under which 3.56 lakh households will get LPG cylinder and a gas stove free of cost.

Chief minister Sheila Dikshit had announced the scheme in her budget speech after the government came to a conclusion that subsidised kerosene does not reach intended beneficiaries and often ends up in the black market and is used in adulteration.

The Delhi high court on Friday directed a committee of experts to frame guidelines to prevent rampant use of banned pesticides in vegetables and fruits and submit its report to it. The division bench of Justices Sanjay Kishan Kaul and Vipin Sanghi sought the report from the committee by October 8 for framing a policy for periodic checks to detect residue of pesticides in vegetables and fruits.

The bench expressed displeasure over the committee for not holding its meetings frequently to decide the guidelines. “There has been hardly any progress to the status report. In two months, only two meetings have been held. It’s not acceptable to us.

The Environmental Pollution (Prevention & Control) Authority (EPCA) presentation on a new parking policy for Delhi before the Lieutenant-Governor on Thursday argued that the rate of parking for surface parking should be kept higher than multi-level parking facilities.

Other suggestions related to pricing made by Ms. Sunita Narain and Mr. Bhure Lal at the meeting on behalf of EPCA were to keep parking rates variable based on peak and non-peak hours, number of hours parked, and different categories of lands and colonies.
