A meeting sensitizing NGOs and Media persons on the ongoing Measles catch up campaign was conducted on Wednesday at the social Mobilization Experimentation and Training Centre (SMELC) in Dakopgre, Tura. The measles catch up campaign is a special drive to vaccinate all children between the age group of 9 months to below ten years in the district. The objective of the campaign is to swiftly make the populace immune to measles and reduce death due to the disease through 100% immunization of the children in the targeted age group.

SHILLONG: The Meghal-aya State Pollution Control Board (MSPCB) has urged the rangbah shnongs to have a clear perspective of the waste management proposal forwarded by any hospital before issuing NOC to it.

SHILLONG: Members of the Opposition bench on Thursday raised questions over the quality of water being supplied by the PHE department.

Raising the issue on Thursday during Question Hour, Independent legislator Manas Chaudhuri lamented that water supplied by the PHE department is not fit for consumption.

The MoEF’s repeated attempts to blow the whistle over the issue met with inaction. This forced the Addl. PCCF( Central), MoEF NER to use his official authority suo moto by deputing his officials for spot verification and investigation of the matter during May and June 2010. The investigation report brought out glaring non conformities and deficiencies like NOC’s not having complete land description, boundaries, authentic maps etc to correlate and identify on the ground.
