This was decided at the meeting of the representatives of district administration and CNG association's office-bearers here on Friday.

Deputy District Officer (revenue) Rao Imtiaz Ahmed told Dawn the district government was taking note of complaints by the CNG consumers about overcharging.

The reopening of schools after the summer break has thrown the city into a severe CNG crisis. The waiting time at filling stations, which was just 5-10 minutes at the beginning of the year, has increased to an average of three to four hours, leading to serpentine queues and traffic bottlenecks at CNG pumps.

Energy bureau to give star ratings to cars as per fuel efficiency, five stars for over 25.6 km per litre

New Delhi, July 18: Your new set of wheels is going to get its stars.

In a first of its kind venture, the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) is embarking on a fuel efficiency labelling programme, in which cars will be assigned star-rating according to fuel efficiency.

A voluntary start will be made this year. A similar programme of star-ratings is currently on for marking energy saving efficiency in electrical goods like refrigerators.

A mobile court of the Bangladesh Road Transport Authority on Thursday filed 62 cases against similar number of CNG-run auto-rickshaws and realised Tk 6.21 lakh in fines for playing the vehicles illegally in the capital.
The court, during in its drive in the city's Postagola area, also seized 16 CNG auto-rickshaws for not having any documents and failing to pay the fine.

AIMING to expand its fleet of environment-friendly vehicles, homegrown utility vehicle major Mahindra & Mahindra plans to introduce an array of alternative fuel variants including CNG and hybrid versions of its flagship SUV Scorpio, besides plans to introduce electric vehicles.

Retail outlets are still selling CNG at an average price of Rs48.80 per kg despite correction by the government of an erroneous announcement about price increase. The CNG Association believes that the situation has been created to deprive people of the cheap fuel. The association finds it technically impossible to ensure uniform CNG retail prices, as desired by the federal cabinet, because of varying input costs and heating value of natural gas which differs from field to field and province to province.

The Standing Committee on Emission Regulation

The vehicle emission testing programme, aimed at regulating the amount of fuel fumes released to the air by vehicles will be implemented from today. The programme, designed by the Environmental and Natural Resources Ministry in collaboration with the Transport Ministry, will be launched today with the opening of the first two emission testing centres at Kiribathgoda and Miriswatta junction on the Colombo-Kandy highway.
