Order of the National Green Tribunal in the matter of Jitender Singh Vs Union of India & Others dated 03/02/2023.

The matter related to the operation of 138 brick kilns in violation of environmental norms in Hisar district of Haryana. The tribunal was of the view that the operation of brick kilns needs to be regulated and the Haryana State Pollution Control Board and the District Magistrate, Hisar need to take remedial action.

South Africa’s Minimum Emissions Standards (MES) for combustion installations were issued in 2010, with a phased introduction where existing sources had to meet a more lenient set of standards by 2015 and a more stringent set of standards by 2020.

Achieving China’s dual ambitions of peak carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions by 2030 and carbon neutrality by 2060 will require a strong focus on the transport sector and that transport-related air pollutant and CO2 emissions be monitored and regulated in a coordinated fashion going forward.

This report is a continuation of ‘Tracing the Hazy Air: Progress Report on National Clean Air Programme’ released by the Centre for Research on Energy and Clean Air in January 2022.

Joint committee inspection report in the matter of Original Application No. 89/2022 'Rahul Sharma Vs Divisional Railway Manager, Bhopal & Others.

The report was in response to the National Green Tribunal order, 21/11/2022.

The matter related to pollution caused due to the loading and unloading of cement, fertilizer and food grains which was carried out in the open at the railway good shed, Itarsi, Narmadapuram, Madhya Pradesh.

Order of the National Green Tribunal in the matter of Durgesh Boken & Others Vs State of Haryana dated 02/01/2023.

The NGT received a letter petition dated June 6, 2022 from residents of village Darbaripur and Hasanpur, Gurugram, Haryana regarding industrial pollution at Darbaripur, Hasanpur road, Khekri Daula Road, Sector-75, Gurugram. Industrial establishments like Suzuki Company, Mahindra and Mahindra and Sudhar Metals and Alloy are located there. The residents have complained that the industries are not complying with environmental norms.

Many cities in urban India, particularly the metros, are major hotspots of air pollution with a PM 2.5 concentration level ranging above the permissible limits defined by the WHO for most of the year.
