Tawang/Guwahati: The Centre has asked Arunachal Pradesh governor General (retd) JJ Singh to coordinate all the major border development initiatives to build high-tech infrastructure along the Sino-Indian border. The initiatives include building an airport at Tawang, after one is in place in state capital Itanagar, and constructing a 1,840-km state-of-the-art trans-Arunachal highway touching the borders with China, Bhutan and Myanmar besides spreading a rail network in the state on the lines of one the Chinese have built in Tibet.

Planning Commission Member Kirit S Parikh today suggested the Arunachal Pradesh Government to go for storage projects in the State instead of run of river projects. For utilizing huge power potential of Arunachal Pradesh optimally, storage projects should be favoured instead of run of the river Projects, wherever possible, he commented during a high level meeting with Chief Minister Dorjee Khandu here.

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) will help Arunachal Pradesh in disaster management by imparting training to the police force, including communities, who are frontliners during disasters. Speaking on the sidelines of the two-day state level workshop on disaster and risk management here today, NDMA member K M Singh told reporters that the Central Statutory Body, with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh as its Chairman, would help the State in making preparations to cope with any situation during disasters.
