New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Wednesday stayed the interim orders passed by the Andhra Pradesh High Court permitting the Bellary Iron Ore Ltd (BIOL) to lift the iron ore stock in the mines available as on December 22, 2009.

Nearly five lakh tonnes of iron ore seized in Karnataka as part of an investigation into illegal mining from the iron ore rich district of Bellary has gone missing. The iron ore worth nearly Rs 200 crore was seized at the Bellekeri Port near Karwar in Karnataka.

BANGALORE: World's biggest steel producer Arcelor Mittal on Thursday signed a memorandum of understanding with the Karnataka Government to establish a 6-million tonne integrated steel plant in Bellary district.

Global steel giant ArcelorMittal on Thursday entered into pact with the Karnataka government to set up a Rs 30,000-crore plant and hoped that the project would come up faster compared to its plans in Jharkhand and Orissa.

Overwhelming response to Global Investors Meet, says State Govt.

The Karnataka Government has said that ArcelorMittal is willing to offer stake in its Rs 30,000-crore steel project to farmers whose land will be acquired for the project.

Bangalore: All roads will lead to the Bangalore Palace Grounds here on Thursday as Karnataka's biggest investor festival, the Global Investors Meet, gets under way. The two-day event, hosted by the State Government, is expected to attract more than 4,500 investor-delegates from India and several other countries.

The Karnataka State Pollution Control Board (KSPCB) will establish an air monitoring facility at Bellary district at a cost of Rs one crore.

The steel sector, mining and the district of Bellary will be in the spotlight at a Global Investors Meet being organised by the government in Karnataka from Wednesday. The government is expecting to tie up deals estimated at Rs 3.5 lakh crore at the meet. Most of the deals have already been brokered and would only be signed at the meet.
