The Khangchendzonga National Park is a part of the eastern Himalaya global biodiversity hotspot and is located in the Sikkim state of India. Increasing livestock populations coupled with the government policy to ban grazing and its selective implementation resulted in conflict. Hence we undertook this multidisciplinary study involving consultations with traditional resource users, field surveys, and remote sensing.

This article presents an interesting case study on how projects, even science based projects are being conceived without any regard to ecology.

In the year 2000, the author a wildlife researcher chose the Palni Hills and had set out to do a survey of mammals along the eastern part of Western Ghats that covers an area of over 2,000 sq. km. The author planned to gather reports of mammals at different elevations and habitats across the Palnis and proceed to intensively survey the areas.

Arunachal Pradesh has been identified as one of the "Biodiversity Hotspot" areas in the world. The tribes inhabiting the state recognize over 500 species of plants as having medicinal properties. The authors have conducted field trips in different areas of Arunachal Pradesh covering six western districts during March 2004 - October 2005.
