NEW DELHI: For a parched Delhi the latest report card on the status of its ground water released by the Central Ground Water Board spells tough times ahead, with all nine districts of the city reporting a decline in the water table.

Arsenic contamination in groundwater has been reported from some parts of 28 districts of Uttar Pradesh, 15 districts of Bihar and certain districts of West Bengal in the country.

LUCKNOW: Pending since 2005, enactment of the UP Ground Water Conservation, Protection and Development (Management, Control and Regulation) bill will take some more time. The ground water department has decided to put the draft of the proposed law on its website for public objections and suggestions before starting the legislation process. This, if all goes well, may take at least an year.

Eight Years After HC Order, Very Few Buildings Have Installed Structures

New Delhi: In 2001, the Delhi High Court asked the government to make rainwater harvesting compulsory in the city. Eight years on, the situation remains alarming. The groundwater level is dropping by the day and the government refuses to accept responsibility.
