JAIPUR: More than 31 lakh conventional bulbs are going to be replaced by energy-efficient CFLs in Jaipur under a new project to be launched by Jaipur Discom with the help of Banyan Environmental Innovations under the Bachat Lamp Yojna of the Bureau of Energy Efficiency.

President Barack Obama, fresh from his first legislative victory on climate policy, expressed confidence on Monday that new greenhouse gas emission limits would become law with help from the U.S. Senate.

Obama also announced new measures on efficiency standards for lighting used in homes and businesses to take effect in 2012.

The compact fluorescent lamp (CFL), considered as energy saving light is posing as the biggest threat to the Garden City as heaps of broken and discarded lamps are ending up in lake beds, posing danger to the groundwater.

The study focuses on the context of the scope of different strategies for carbon emission reduction from existing and new R&D technologies in the residential and commercial building sector of the developing countries. In order to do that it highlights the range of technologies and goods which could be applied in the residential and commercial building sector for reduction of carbon emissions.

Low price, high value
CFLs use only 20 per cent of the energy an incandescent bulb uses, to generate the same amount of illumination. They also last much longer. But they cost up to 10 times more. If made available at Rs 10-15, they will be great value for money.

The plan

THE Greenpeace activists on Friday launched the Bachat Lamp Yojana in the city. Film director Vasanth and Bengali actor Dhritiman Chatterjee, who acted in the recently released Tamil film Yaavarum Nalam, were present.

As a part of the launch, the activists set up a stall near the Gandhi Statue on Marina Beach and sold Compact Florescent Lamps (CFLs) at Rs 15.
