Studies on physico-chemical parameters of underground mine water, OCP direct discharge water and sump water of Urimari, Sayal 'D' Block, Khas Karanpura area and Bhurkunda area of South Karanpura Coalfield of Central Coalfields Limited, a subsidiary of Coal India Limited were carried out in 2004-05 and 2005-06 in all the three seasons, namely summer, monsoon and winter.

The Goa Pollution Control Board has finally cracked a whip against institutions to arrest the pollution of River Sal.
In two separate orders, the pollution Control Board has directed the managements of Konkan Railway and Ms Apollo Victor Hospitals to immediately stop the release of untreated waste water in the nullah leading to the River Sal.

The district of Pudong in the Chinese coastal city of Shanghai will launch a pilot emission trading scheme this year, the China Daily said, citing local officials.

Pudong's environmental bureau will allow more than 300 companies to trade "pollution discharge rights" on the Shenghai Environment and Energy Exchange, according to bureau director Zhang Peijun.

Recent study on ground water quality in Lakshadweep Islands shows that groundwater in these islands are mainly contaminated by domestic sewage and sea water intrusion. Contamination by domestic sewage is attributed to tank used by the islanders for sewage disposal. In the present study, an Anaerobic Single Baffled Reactor is introduced as an improvement to these tanks.

Effluent samples were collected from a tannery in Ambur, near North Arcot Dist, Tamil Nadu, India. The physico-chemical parameters of the effluent viz, colour, odour, pH, Electrical conductivity, TSS, TDS, BOD, COD, total hardness, calcium hardness, magnesium hardness, chloride, sulphate and total chromium were determined. The results revealed that almost all the parameters of Tannery Effluent were found to be high and exceeding the CPCB limits.

The wastewater generated from textile industries of Bhilwara city is studied for its characterization. Wastewater of textile industry was found to contain a high degree of pollutants with high TDS and suspended solids. The wastewater is highly colored and viscous due to dyestuff and suspended solids respectively.

The data on flow, BOD, COD, TSS and TDS were collected from the common effluent treatment plant (CETP) for the period from June '96 to November '96. The data were analysed to assess the performance of the CETP in terms of removal efficiency for the above mentioned parameters. The original design of individual units in the CETP were scrutinized for their authenticity.
