The International Centre for Diarrhoeal Disease Research Bangladesh, in collaboration with the government, is going to launch a pilot project of giving oral cholera vaccine to the people of a specific area of the capital by early January next year.

As many 28 cases of cholera have been reported in Mugalihal in Saundatti taluk of Belgaum district.

Oct. 25: Oral cholera vaccine has been found to be safe in India and is likely to be introduced for inoculation in cholera endemic areas in the country including Hyderabad.
Though oral cholera vaccine consisting of killed whole cells has been present in the market for many years, it is never prescribed by the health authorities fearing its safety.

Over five thousand people in 13 panchayats under Lanjigarh and Bhawanipatna blocks in Orissa, who are choleraaffected, are waging a battle between life and death. 50 adults have perished of cholera in the last one month.

Mumbai The congested Kalbadevi area has witnessed a a sudden increase in cholera cases with nine persons from the locality already admitted to hospitals in the last two days. The area houses an enormous amount of contaminated water, one of the major causes of the disease. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has started screening residents in the area.

Mumbai: Hardly had citizens got over the swine flu, malaria, gastroenteritis, and jaundice when cholera has caught certain areas of Mumbai in its grip.

As many as 12 patients, all residents of Carvel Street, Ramwadi, Kalbadevi, were admitted to hospital with symptoms of cholera. Eleven of them were admitted to Kasturba Hospital and one to Gokuldas Tejpal Hospital on Wednesday evening.

Sept. 8: After the swine flu havoc, cases of cholera, jaundice, malaria and dengue are on the rise. A confirmed case of chikungunya has also been reported in the city.
In all, 72 cases of cholera have been recorded in the city till September 7 compared to 64 in 2008 and 36 in 2007. Likewise, 45 cases of jaundice and 16 cases of dengue have also been reported.

The Orissa government has resorted to announcing cash incentives for bringing cholera patients in Kalahandi to hospital as its declaration of a cholera outbreak in the district has failed to bring about the same. With 26 people dying of diarrhoea in the last month in the district, the state government has now announced cash awards for those bringing the patients along with the patients.
