NEW DELHI: The government plans to bring the sea along the Indian coasts under the ambit of the Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) guidelines and strengthen enforcement provisions.

Some leniency will be given for fishing facilities and to the coastal communities in Mumbai, Kerala, certain biosphere reserves, the Sunderbans and Goa.

Mumbai: The state government on Thursday made it clear that the decision to grant more floor space index (FSI) to rebuild Sea Rock Hotel in Bandra was conditional.

The hotel needs to get a no objection certificate (NOC) from the environment department as it falls in the coastal regulation zone (CRZ).

Visakhapatnam, April 14: A census survey of fisherfolk living in all coastal states of India is slated to begin from April 16.

The director of National Marine and Fisheries Re-search Centre, Mr G. Saida Rao, said that the centre would be helping the Union government in gathering the figures, here on Wednesday.

MUMBAI: The Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) notification of 1991 does not require any amendments and this should remain as a base document to further strengthen the fragile coastal areas across the country. This is one of the key recommendations made by coastal communities across the country that is part of an exhaustive report by the Union ministry of environment and forests.

The Supreme Court has held that constructions done by real estate firms between 1994 and 1996 in the 50-metre zones from the coast lines are not illegal. The constructions were allowed after government had brought an amendment in 1994 in the Coastal Regulation Zone Act, 1991 reducing the 100-metre 'no development zone' to 50-metre.

Kottapalli mandal and leaders and activists of the Telugu Desam party staged a protest on Sunday against the illegal transportation of sand by some people with the help of Congress leaders at sand reaches which come under the Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) in East Godavari.

The proposed coastal regulation zone amendments 2010 along with the discussion that outlines the proposal and salient features including new provisions proposed to be incorporated in the existing CRZ notification 2010.
