Report submitted by the Gujarat Pollution Control Board (GPCB) acknowledged that the CETP was not meeting the parameters, causing pollution of Sabarmati river.

The NGT orders that the CETP should adhere strictly to the inlet and outlet norms as prescribed under the rules and the Gujarat Pollution Control Board should monitor and maintain strict vigil over the CETP.

History of the case:

NGT noted that the inspection report filed before the Tribunal from time to time clearly showed that untreated industrial effluents were being discharged in a water body causing damage to the eco system and health of the inhabitants.
