Ludhiana: After the installation of the reverse osmosis (RO) system at the common effluent treatment plant (CETP), the claims of the electroplating units of achieving zero discharge seems to go down the drain as the investigations by The Tribune revealed that there are many loopholes in their claims.

Yet another deadline has meant nothing for the local dyeing units polluting the Buddha Nullah as they have failed to upgrade their effluent treatment plants (ETPs). Earlier, the Punjab Pollution Control Board had directed them to follow the orders in this regard till March 31.

KARACHI (March 25 2009): Due to the lethargic attitude of Sindh government and rapid change of faces at the helm in Karachi Water and Sewerage Board (KWSB), the Rs 276 million project of developing four combined effluent treatment plants (ETPs) in the citys industrial areas is far from execution.

AHMEDABAD: For many years now, owing to high cost of toxic waste treatment, hundreds of chemical industries surrounding city have been discharging their toxic waste illegally into city drainage system in areas like Vatva, Naroda, Odhav and Narol. Ideally these units should be sending their discharge to central effluent treatment plants (CETP).
