Promoting environmentally sustainable transport (EST) is a must to mitigate adverse environmental and health impact in the city, said the speakers at a national workshop and policy dialogue yesterday.

The EST includes non-motorised vehicles, bicycles, pedestrianisation schemes and vehicles with less emission of pollutants, they added.

This study on different facets of mobility in Bangalore covers major parts of BBMP limits and also deals with Travel Time Index, Congestion Index, Safety Index , Mobility & Accessibility Measures. It recommends strategies for a better integrated land use and transport system and discusses the roles of various stakeholders in promoting them.

NEW DELHI: A heritage cycling ride was organised in the heart of the Capital by Delhi Cycling Club on Sunday. The event was supported by Open Planning Project and Institute for Transportation and Development Policy.

The aim of the ride was to promote bicycle as a green, healthy and most sustainable mode of transport and help people learn about the heritage and history of Delhi.

Around 150 students of Lokmanya Tilak College of Engineering at Koparkhairane organised a Cyclothon on Sunday, when they cycled a 44.4-km stretch, stopping at various stations, malls and traffic islands to spread the message of global warming and fast depleting fuel sources.
