New Delhi: Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) seems to be on a fast track to modernisation. While nearly 200 buses are to be added to the existing fleet by March next year, the entire fleet is going to be fitted with global positioning system (GPS).

The government's plan to phase out Blueline buses in the capital is likely to take more time than expected. While its "cluster" scheme, in which private players were to be invited to run buses on particular cluster of routes, seems to have encountered a financial problem, the arrival of the low-floor DTC buses may also take time.

The corporate buses will start plying from September and will have GPS and smart card fare system

The Delhi transport department has decided to install global positioning (GPS) and smart card fare systems in corporate buses that would run on city roads from September. Commissioner and secretary of Delhi transport department R.K. Varma said today.

July 1: The Delhi government on Wednesday said it has informed the Centre about its intention to purchase 625 low-floor buses under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM). The buses were part of a total fleet of 1,500 sanctioned for Delhi under the JNNURM.
