The key issue is not defining equity but determining whether climate change is a sustainable development or an environmental challenge

A workshop on ‘Equitable access to Sustainable Development’ is to be held in Bonn in May as part of the negotiating process for a new arrangement on global climate change. The treatment of equity in a global approach continues to be an unresolved and divisive issue, because the approach of all counties seeks to define an elusive concept, equity, and tweak a failing system arrived at in 1992 rather than develop a vision for 2032.

Preparations for the Rio+20 United Nations conference on sustainable development have begun, but the first round of preparatory meetings did not address important issues such as sustainable resource use, production and consumption.

The objective of this paper is to shed some light on the benefits of improved access to electricity supply, specifically the benefits referred to as "consumer‘s surplus", which is the difference between what customers are willing to pay for the utilities associated with electricity access and the price that they actually pay.

Yukiya Amano, director general of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) on Monday advocated the process of making nuclear power available to developing nations for peaceful purposes.

Mr Amano was in Mumbai to address the 21st annual meeting of the Indian Nuclear Society in Kharghar.

This study analyzes the long-term impacts of large-scale expansion of biofuels on land-use change, food supply and prices, and the overall economy in various countries or regions using a global computable general equilibrium model, augmented by a land-use module and detailed representation of biofuel sectors.

Presents the experiences of energy use and deprivation of people living in poverty & alongwith recommendations on policy, financing & capabilities towards creation of a vibrant energy access “ecosystem” of energy product and service providers, engaging public, private & civil society sectors.

The relationships between energy, the environment, and development are deep and complex. The International Energy Agency has noted that energy is deeply implicated in each of the economic, social and environmental dimensions of human development. Energy services provide an essential input to economic activity, contribute to social development, and help meet basic human needs.
