The major flood in rivers Brahmani and Baitarani has affected more than 20 lakh people in 10 districts of Orissa while many areas in the worst-affected Jajpur district have remained cut off.
Special Relief Commissioner's office said 17 persons died, mostly drowned, some of snakebite and in wall collapse — while two persons were reported missing in Angul and Keonjhar districts.
Three members of a tribal family were killed by a tusker in Thoriasandha village under Bhuban forest range, 65 km from Dhenkanal, in the wee hours of Tuesday.
The incident occurred when the family members were asleep in their hut.
The tusker destroyed walls of a hut and trampled the couple and their four-year-old daughter Chemi Hembram.

DHENKANAL: Malaria has broken out in predominantly tribal Sorisapada gram panchayat (GP) of Gondia block in Dhenkanal district. Sources said the disease has claimed four kids in the past one week though official sources confirmed only one death.
