Bhubaneswar: National Aluminium Company Ltd (Nalco) has shown interest in developing Independent Power Plants (IPPs) in Odisha.

The Central-sector company is interested to undertake the projects in partnership with the State-owned undertakings like the Odisha Thermal Power Corporation Ltd (OTPCL), the Odisha Mining Corporation (OMC) and the Odisha Hydro Power Corporation (OHPC).

THE Union coal ministry is poised to clear a 5.5 million tonne annual coal linkage for the near 5,000-crore super-thermal venture being put up by RPG flagship CESC in Orissa. A final decision on the coal linkage is slated to come through next week at a meeting of the coal ministry

London-listed Essar Energy, part of the shipping-to-telecom conglomerate Essar Group, today said its arm, Essar Power Ltd (EPL), had agreed to acquire Navabharat Power Pvt Ltd. Navabharat Power is setting up a 2,250-mega watt (Mw) coal-fuelled power plant at Dhenkanal in Orissa.

DHENKANAL:A Bid by Bhusan Steel Limited (BSL) to construct an ash pond is mired in controversy after the district administration, the Rehabilitation and Peripheral Development Advisory Committee (RPDAC) rejected it on the grounds of stiff resistance from villagers. The Orissa State Pollution Control Board (OSPCB) too refused permission for its construction.

BHUBANESWAR: The State Government today signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the JSL Limited for establishment of a 1320 MW super thermal power plant at Luni in Dhenkanal district.

The company will draw water from the Mahanadi river system for the plant.

JSL will invest Rs 7,375 crore and create employment opportunity (direct and indirect) for 2,600 persons in Orissa.
