Five members of a family, including two minors, were buried alive and one person was injured due to a landslide caused by heavy rain in Doda district last night. Besides damaging the house, the landslide killed two mules.

The deceased have been identified as Luftullah (60), his wife Sharifa Begun (60), cousin Shamshada Begum (30), granddaughters Fatima Bano (11) and Sania (2).

Due to heavy rain in the region, six people were killed in two separate incidents of house collapse in Doda district and Bishnah.

Minister for Rural Development and Parliamentary Affairs, Ali Mohammad Sagar has said that proposal for construction of Chhatroo-Singhpora-Vailoo tunnel is under consideration, adding that study of the project has been conducted and recently mode of execution of the project discussed at a high level meeting.

JAMMU, Aug 29: With no respite from the diarrhoea epidemic in the mountainous and vast Doda district mainly caused by contaminated water, Union Health and Family Welfare Ministry is deputing its team to the district tomorrow to inspect water resources and suggest corrective measures to tackle the epidemic and prevent its recurrence in the future.

NEW DELHI, Jan 27: The Centre is planning to go ahead with constructing another mega power project on river Chenab in Doda district after the completion of Baglihar.

The crop productivity in Siwalik rainfed areas including kandi belt of Jammu and Kashmir is very low.
