The World Bank extended its support package Nepal with 880 million rupees in grants in Kathmandu on Tuesday.
The amount has been given to Nepal for the peace process, health programme and rural drinking water project.
Finance Secretary Rameshwor Khanal and Ms Susan Goldmark, World Bank Country Director for Nepal, signed on the support package today.
It has been learnt that 340 million rupees, out of total amount, will be spent as part of the emergency peace process.

BANGALORE: Karnataka has opposed Goa's appeal to the Union Government to set up a tribunal to study the Kalasa-Banduri nala project for diversion of the Mahadayi waters to meet the drinking water needs of Hubli-Dharwad and other districts of north Karnataka.

Hyderabad, Aug. 24: Residents of the Secunderabad Cantonment Board have been waiting for an additional supply of 15 lakh gallons of drinking water for the last four years. The SCB presently supplies 38 lakh gallons per day but the demand is for 50 lakh gallons. Residents of over 60 localities were to be the main beneficiaries of the additional water to be supplied from the Angadi Water Project which as grounded at a cost of over Rs 2.7 crore.

Dhaka Water and Sewerage Authority (WASA) has undertaken a Taka 81.21 crore plan to supply safe drinking water to the dwellers of Narayanganj replacing the existing water supply machineries and setting up of new deep tube-wells during the current fiscal year.

According to Narayanganj maintenance, operation and distribution services (MODS) of WASA, of the total amount WASA will provide 12.5 per cent while the rest of the amount would be utilised from the annual development programmes (ADP).

BANGALORE: The Karnataka Government has decided to write to the Union Government to direct Tamil Nadu to refrain from going ahead with the Rs. 1,334-crore Hogenakkal drinking water project, as the Cauvery water sharing dispute is before the Supreme Court.

The project is being taken up by Tamil Nadu to provide drinking water to Dharmapuri and Krishnagiri districts and is expected to be commissioned by 2012.

The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) on Monday signed three Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with well-known corporate sector firms - Mobilink, Medentech and Unilever Pakistan - to promote health facilities in Pakistan.

Speaking on the occasion, USAID, Pakistan, Director (Health, Democracy and Governance) Kathleen McDonald said, "USAID is helping Pakistani communities to have access to clean water and adopt sanitary practices that save lives.'
