The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the international relief organisation AmeriCares to fund the completion of a Water Distribution Network for the Ulla community in Ampara district, on Tuesday. The project will serve 2,400 inhabitants in the Arugam Bay area by distributing clean and safe drinking water directly to the people, a USAID release said. The wells serving this community were mostly open, which had been overtopped and polluted by the tsunami.

Coliform, a fatal bacteria, has been detected in the drinking water of several northern districts including Bogra, says a survey report of the environment department of Rajshahi division. Director of the department Mohammad Abdus Sobhan said the bacteria, harmful for human being, was found in the drinking water supplied to several government and non-government establishments including educational institutions. The survey was conducted in Rajshahi, Bogra, Pabna, Rangpur, Gaibandha, Sirajganj, Lalmonirhat, Joypurhat and Naogaon districts from March to May this year.

Kathmandu Upathyaka Khanepani Limited (KUKL) plans to distribute 3.5 million liters of water to Kathmandu residents without treating it with chemicals to make it fit for drinking or purifying it. According to Annapurna Post, KUKL will supply 3.5 million liters of untreated water daily to residents of ward nos 16, 17, 18, 26, 27 and 28 to supplement the increasing water woes.

Nahan - Water supply to Nahan town has been disrupted since Saturday due to a disruption in the Khairi drinking water supply scheme. Water supply to residents has been rationed, forcing people to carry water from handpumps. The authorities informed the residents through public announcements that they should limit their water use. They said the problem would continue for three days, but warned it could take longer to fix the problem.
