Strange is the interplay of money power, business interests and NGO politics. In most cases, farmers turn out to be victims. A recent notification of the Kerala government is a good instance.
The city-based NGO Thanal has dismissed allegations raised by the Pesticide Manufacturers and Formulators Association of India (PMFAI) that Thanal had been receiving funds from European Union to run media campaign against endosulphan as absolutely baseless.

MUMBAI: Pesticide Manufacturers and Formulators Association of India (PMFAI) has alleged that Thanal, an NGO working in Kerala, and the Centre for Science and Environment (CSE), based in New Delhi, have been using funds pumped by the European Union (EU) for running false media campaign in Kerala against the Endosulfan company.
Endosulfan sulfate is a persistent environmental metabolite of endosulfan, an organochlorine insecticide–acaricide presently registered by the United States Environmental Protection Agency. There is, however, limited acute fish toxicity data for endosulfan sulfate.
Like Kerala’s Kasaragod, neighbouring Dakshina Kannada is bearing the brunt of spraying of endosulfan. While Kasaragod grabbed media spotlight and Kerala banned the pesticide, victims in Karnataka are still struggling for recognition.
