KOCHI: The Kerala State Electricity Board will distribute two 14-watt compact fluorescent lamps (CFLs) to the households that come under the Kaloor electrical section, from Tuesday.

The Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), a statutory body under the Union Power Ministry, is targeting to train 5,000 A/C showroom salesmen across the country on energy efficient choice this year as part of a national education programme on star labelling for air-conditioners. Of this, around 850 salesmen will be trained from Kerala.

The Centre has put in place an enabling legal, regulatory and policy framework to promote market-based energy efficiency in the country and the focus now is on implementing schemes aimed at reducing the energy intensity of the economy.

NEW DELHI: Stating that rapid economic growth and industrialisation were the major challenges that need to be met head on, Union Power Minister Sushilkumar Shinde said power generation capacity addition during the XI Plan would be about 74,000 MW, almost close to the original target of 78,577 MW.
