Ministry of Environment and Forests (MoEF) has ordered Vedanta Aluminium Ltd. (VAL) to halt expansion work at its alumina refinery & captive power plant in Lanjhigarh at Kalahandi district, Orissa.

Direction under Section 5 of the Environment (Protection) Act, 1986 regarding 1 MPTA Alumina Refinery and 75 MW Captive Power Plant at Lanjigarh, Kalahandi in Orissa by M/s Vedanta Aluminium Limited, dated October 20th, 2010.

KOZHIKODE: The Ministry of Environment and Forests has released the draft notification of the Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) 2010 under the Environment Protection Act 1986, inviting suggestions and objections from the public within 60 days after the issue of the draft.

Under the new notification, all the islands in the backwaters of Kerala will be covered under the CRZ notification.
