Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit on Wednesday announced in the state Assembly on Wednesday that her government wants to phase out auto-rickshaws from the Capital.

A couple of days after the Supreme Court- appointed committee on environment matters reportedly directed the MCD not to extend its "parking lots under parks" schemes beyond the nine venues for which work orders have been awarded, the MCD said that all was well with its scheme of constructing 24 such parking lots.

New Delhi: Delhi Jal Board (DJB), New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) and Central Public Works Department (CPWD) are in trouble for supplying untreated sewage water to Lodhi Garden for horticulture purposes.

Ahmedabad: In what could be termed as a compliment for the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation bosses, environmentalist and Environment Pollution Control Authority (EPCA) member Sunita Narain on Friday said that the city air was much cleaner now.

Narain, who was in the city, also took a ride on the Bus Rapid Transit System (BRTS), which she thinks has happened at the right time for Ahmedabad.

EPCA reviews existing cap on number of three-wheelers in Delhi and its implications on mobility, pollution and congestion. Recommends that existing restriction on the number of TSRs imposed by Supreme court be lifted as of April 2010, when the Bharat III norms come into force.

Following a Delhi government directive for a complete check of low-floor buses supplied by Tata Motors, nearly 350 low- floor buses were checked at 10 depots over the last four days.

Anticipating less rush over the last four days due to public holidays, the Delhi Transport Corporation had taken the buses off the roads and sent them to the depots allotted to Tata Motors for a thorough check.

A survey carried out by the Delhi police in the city has revealed that the number of vehicles challaned for unauthorised and illegal parking has doubled as compared to last year. Interestingly, the police attributes not so much to the non-availability of parking spaces in city.
