JORHAT, Sept 3: The centenary Kaziranga National Park has lost four hog deer and a rhino calf in the current spell of floods which hit its ranges on August 22. About 50 per cent of the total area of the conservation hotspot, abode of the one-horned rhino, has been submerged. Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi today made an aerial survey of the flood scene in KNP and Morigaon.

BARPETA, Sept 3: As a result of continuous rainfall during the last 10 days, the flood situation in Barpeta district remains grim. With Brahmaputra and its major tributaries flowing above the danger level the flood situation in the district continued to assume dangerous propositions.
According to the Water Resource Department sources of Barpeta the water level of Brahmaputra has risen to 42.50 meter which has exceeded the danger level by 1.20 meter and the level has been showing a risen trend continuously.

Disaster management experts at an international seminar yesterday underscored the need for developing monthly and seasonal flood forecasting technologies for agricultural planning and management, as climatic changes are likely to affect agriculture badly.

They also suggested validating and disseminating the already developed know-how of forecasting flood ten days ahead and emphasised on special attention on the flash flood areas.

Guwahati: Over ten lakh people have been affected by floods in Assam with the situation in Majuli turning critical on Tuesday as the level of flood water continued to rise alarmingly due to incessant rainfall . Floods have so far claimed 15 lives in the State since June 1.

NEW DELHI: The Municipal Corporation of Delhi has decided to donate Rs.10 crore for relief works being carried out for flood victims in Bihar. The announcement was made by Delhi Mayor Arti Mehra here on Tuesday.

It was also decided that one lakh packets of gram and kheel each weighing one kg would be prepared and despatched to Bihar.

Guwahati, September 2: Brahmaputra has already submerged 60 per cent of Kaziranga National Park. However, thanks to the efforts of the conservation and protection staff and volunteers, the world-famous rhino habitat has been able to put up a brave fight against floods.
