New Delhi: Just a day before the National Advisory Council (NAC) meets to discuss the universalisation of public distribution system (PDS) under the proposed food security act, the Prime Minister's chief economic advisor, C Rangarajan has suggested a compromise formula for making the proposed Bill workable.

Right to Food Movement, a network of NGOs favouring a food security law, said the NAC should address issues of abundance of food and efficiency of a public distribution system before finalising the draft on food security Bill.

NEW DELHI: The Chairman of the Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister, C. Rangarajan, on Tuesday suggested that people Above the Poverty Line (APL) could be considered for the mandatory food security scheme by limiting the subsidised foodgrains entitlement of Below the Poverty line (BPL) beneficiaries to 30 kg per month per family (instead of 35 kg).

New Delhi: The state governments on Monday submitted their recommendations to the Centre on how to improve the public distribution system, including steps to ensure timely distribution and reduce leakages.
