The authors of the recently completed Comprehensive Assessment of Water Management in Agriculture (CA) concluded that there are sufficient water resources to produce food for a growing population but that trends in consumption, production and environmental patterns, if continued, will lead to water crises in many parts of the world.

The global crisis has exposed underlying structural imbalances built up over decades. Reorienting the macroeconomic structure in fairer, more balanced and inclusive channels of development will help sustain the recovery once fiscal stimulus policies have done their job.

The publication titled Practical guideline on the use of urine in crop production gives practical guidance on the use of urine in crop production as a vital component of sustainable crop production and sanitation systems. It also includes guidance on how to initiate activities that will facilitate the introduction of new fertilisers to the

Rapid urbanisation in developing countries intensifies the challenges of making sufficient food available for the increasing urban population, and managing the related waste flow. Unlike in rural communities, there is usually little or no return of food biomass and related nutrients into the food production process. Most waste ends up on landfills or pollutes the urban environment.

Mumbai: Maharashtra government today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) to study dangers of climate change in the state.

TERI would carry out research work at six places in the state and study impact of climate change on factors like foodgrain production, public health and status of water resources, an official said.
