If you thought utilising agricultural land - khazans - for fish farming is bad. Hold your breath... It may not be long before it is officially allowed. In order to facilitate the use of khazan land for pisciculture purpose, the Fisheries Department has recommended amendment to the Land Revenue Act. The State has about 18000 hectares of Khazan land but vast portion has been left unutilized, or fallow. The Department of Fisheries believes it can be utilised for pisciculture.

Residents of Kharkhatiaghati-Sanguem led by Santano Rodrigues, Nilesh Dessai and Laxman Chauhan have complained to the High Court over the dumping of garbage by Curchorem Cacora Municipal Council (CCMC) in violation of the guidelines laid down by Goa State Pollution Control Board. According to reports, the letter states that CCMC is dumping the garbage openly behind the Sanguem Court, without covering the dumped garbage.

Residents of Palaskata, Makdem, Kajumal, Nandran, Kasavalim, Satpal and Gawaliwada have complained of acute water shortage since March, after the Water Supply department disconnected public taps in many parts of Mollem. "At present, there is about 10 to 12 thousand litres of water shortage per day in the area,' Mollem panch Mr Shahu told Herald. Most of the residents are without water connections and are dependent on public taps. The water supply department has arranged to supply water through tankers, said sources.
