Higher education can't resist a ranking: best college, best cafeteria, biggest endowment, biggest party school. It says something about what's important on campus, then, that when the Princeton Review releases its annual guide to colleges this week, it will include a new metric: a "green rating,' giving points for things like "environmentally preferable food,' power from renewable sources and energy-efficient buildings.

BEIJING: Two wells as deep as 2,000 metres would provide heat for a 7,500-seat gymnasium in winter, the competing venue for the badminton tournament of Beijing Olympic Games, and another 12 wells are used for the cooling system in summer.

The Beijing University of Technology Gymnasium will realise zero emission in the use of geothermal energy, and energy consumption would be reduced by 30 per cent, said university vice-president Zhang Ailin.

Addressing the inaugural function, Dr Manjushree Pathak, president of the organisation, said that the project Greening India is meant for the benefit of rural people of the Dimoria Block and is also designed to create environmental awareness and to promote ecological balance in the area.
