Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha on Tuesday demolished at least 50 unauthorised structures at Hatirjheel in the Hatirjheel-Begunbari Integrated Development Project area. The pulled down structures include tin and bamboo made shanties beside the Moghbazar level crossing and some concrete structures opposite the Bangladesh Film Development Corporation.

With the aim to preserve the city's heritage sites, Urban Study Group (USG) arranged a heritage walk yesterday afternoon at Farashganj in the old part of the city. "One of the aims of our walk is to create awareness among people so that they come forward to save the heritage of the city," said Taimur Islam, a conservation architect of USG.

Polar bears were declared a threatened species by the US government today, ending a court battle over protecting the animals from melting sea ice caused by climate change. The Bush administration was given a deadline of tomorrow to decide on protecting the bears after environmental campaigners filed a lawsuit. Yet US officials remained defiant in warning that the bears' status was not intended to help regulate emissions in the Arctic.

Moreover, the low quality roads cannot stand even light rains. Condition of roads is not that good in the State. Several roads start becoming worn out soon after their construction. Though all the roads are not of low quality work. It is about those roads which are of low quality. Several roads which connect different cities are not good which were constructed before some days. Pot holes could be seen in these roads at various places.
