CHANDIGARH: The Haryana Cabinet on Wednesday decided to upgrade five roads on a build-operate-and-transfer basis at a total cost of Rs.537.54 crore, according to Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda.

These are Chandimandir-Jallah road, Bhuria-Khadri-Deodhar-Nainawali road, Yamunanagar-Ladwa-Karnal road, Gurgaon-Faridabad road and Ballabhgarh-Pali-Dhauj-Sohna road.

The Chief Minister said a feasibility study of these roads had been conducted and detailed project reports had been prepared by the consultants engaged by the Haryana State Roads and Bridges Development Corporation.

Land acquisition for special economic zones (SEZs) is stuck because of a year-old directive by the Empowered Group of Ministers (EGoM) that bars state governments from carrying out compulsory acquisition of land for the zones.

The EGoM in April 2007 had said that state governments cannot acquire land for SEZs, in the backdrop of protests in places like Nandigram in West Bengal, and Maharashtra.

CHANDIGARH: Five big road projects would be implemented in Haryana at a cost of Rs.2,629 crore and their foundation stones would be laid by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, said Deepender Singh Hooda, MP, on Tuesday after meeting Dr. Singh in New Delhi.

The Haryana Cabinet has approved a pilot project for providing safe drinking water based on reverse osmosis and related technologies in select water quality affected villages in the Public-NGO-Community Mode through the Naandi Foundation of Hyderabad.

Announcing this after the Cabinet meeting, Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda disclosed that 100 villages would be taken up in the affected districts including Mewat, Mahendergarh, Jhajjar and Kaithal.
