THE blanket ban on foreign companies and individuals from certain countries to undertake hydel projects in sensitive border areas may soon be lifted.

The State is facing a short supply of around 50 MW of power these days. AFTER ravaging the farm sector, poor rainfall now threatens to bring hydel power plants to a complete halt as most of them are running at about 40% capacity, or plant load factor, and are perilously close to a complete shutdown for want of adequate water in their reservoirs.

Shimla: The state Assembly today unanimously adopted a private member resolution, urging the Centre to allow the state to impose a cess on the hydropower generated to meet the fiscal deficit.
