Sept. 16: A 12-member team representing the environment protection committee of Sompeta would meet the UPA chairperson, Mrs Sonia Gandhi and the President, Mrs Pratibha Patil, on September 20 to seek their intervention to stop setting up of thermal power plant near Sompeta.

The extent of noise pollution was assessed in SIPCOT Industrial area in Tamil Nadu. Five industrial sites were chosen randomly. They included : (1) Three textile processing industries, (2) One steel plant and (3) One chemical industry. Noise observations were made in the vicinity of boilers, power house, production area and mechanical shed in each industry.
