Shillong, July 17: Villagers of Khliehriat, a civil subdivision under Jaintia Hills district, about 100km from here, did not know about the existence of the National Family Benefit Scheme, though the same had been introduced throughout the country by the Centre since August 15, 1995, till they were enligtened about it through an interactive meet.

Shillong, March 22: Incessant rainfall has posed fresh problems for the Myntdu-Leshka hydel project in Jaintia Hills district as water entered the power house of the dam.An official of the Meghalaya Energy Corporation Ltd said today incessant rainfall since Saturday had led to the rise in the water level of the dam and also the nearby Lynriang river.
The Meghalaya government has sent a report to the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights under the National Human Rights Commission stating that proper rehabilitation packages would be worked out to protect the children working in coal mines in Jaintia Hills.
The government reply comes in the wake of the direction of the commission on August 13 asking it to reply within three months
