Forest department proposes plantation to check elephant menace

GUWAHATI, : Problems galore in the Agriculture Department in the State. Many posts of senior agriculture officers have been lying vacant, and agricultural infrastructure in the State is very poor.

Jorhat, May 20: A mini-Kaziranga is in the making on a sandbar along the Brahmaputra in northwest Jorhat.

A herd of wild buffaloes have been sighted inside Molai Kathonibari, a wooded area 16km from Jorhat town, for the first time.

The area already has a sizeable population of deer, a tigress with two cubs and is frequented by wild elephants.

Jorhat, The number of people infected with the HIV virus is on the rise in Jorhat. Although the names of AIDS patients are never declared, the number of cases have reached an alarming rate. The Health Department stated that more cases were coming to the light as more and more people were getting their HIV status checked.

Jorhat, April 17: The Geological Survey of India (GSI) and other agencies, including the North East Institute of Science and Technology are conducting microzonation surveys in the Northeast to mitigate the effects of natural disasters.
