It seems that protection of environment and forests is no more the agenda of MOEFCC. The same path is being followed by the State government of U.P. which in spite of saving its natural resources, is deeply responsible for violation of Article 48 A of the Indian constitution which casts a duty on the State Government to protect and improve environment and safeguard forests and wildlife of the country.

Ranchi, June 27: State government today informed Jharkhand High Court that a barrage would be constructed on Kanhar river in Garhwa, thus putting an end to the speculation of construction of a dam, which was pending for more than three decades.

The matter was brought before the high court in a public interest litigation filed by former health minister Hemendra Pratap Dehati.

Jharkhand High Court slapped contempt notices on the state government today as it was dissatisfied with the explanation given for delay in furnishing the detailed project report (DPR) of the Kanhar Dam in Garhwa.

The matter will again be taken up on January 17, 2011.
