PATNA: In a step to alleviate the plight of millions of people affected by the 2008 Kosi floods, the Bihar government on Wednesday signed a $220-million agreement with the World Bank.

The government will chip in with $39 million for the $259-million Bihar Kosi Flood Recovery Project aimed at supporting the State's recovery efforts, reducing risks of flooding and boosting emergency responses in

A batch of relief materials from Haryana, including 300 quintal rice, 4,000 blankets and clothes among other things, could not reach the needy victims of the 2008 Kosi floods just because a voluntary organisation did not turn up to claim them at the railway station here.

The railway authorities have now put on auction the relief materials after a long wait.

The impact of climate change (CC) on water resources is likely to affect agricultural systems and food security. This is especially critical in a least developed country (LDC) like Nepal where a high percentage of the population is dependent on agriculture for its livelihoods.

New Delhi: The month

The Central Water Commission (CWC) sent its response to the Kosi Bandh Katan Judicial Enquiry Commission, through Letter No 7/2/2/2009-FM.II/427 dated 04.12.2009, authored by C P Singh, Director FM-II, issued "with the approval of Chairman, CWC" as the letter says.

With water level rising in rivers including the Kosi, the fear of floods has begun to haunt the people living in north Bihar yet again.

"All the rivers are in full spate following heavy rains. Some rivers may cross the red mark late Wednesday or Thursday," officials of the Central Water Commission warned.
