The Supreme Court today issued notices to Reliance Gas Transportation and Infrastructure Ltd, and the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas on the appeals moved by more than 50 land owners of Surat, alleging that the Mukesh Ambani-led company had not paid them adequate compensation for acquisition.

The North-eastern States might be sitting on a huge hydropower potential, but power companies, both government-owned and independent power producers (IPP), citing serious hurdles, have called for immediate steps to simplify land acquisition and environmental and forest clearances processes.

The state can look forward to overcoming power shortage by 2011.

The Power ministry came down heavily on 6 major states of the country holding their lethargic attitude towards ensuring optimum power. MUMBAI: In the backdrop of power shortage in the state, there is good news for the people of Maharashtra and Reliance Power as well. An appeal filed against the environmental and CRZ clearances given to the power company for its proposed 4,000 MW power project in Konkan has been dismissed by the National Environment Appellate Authority, paving way for the early development of the project.
