The farmers will get compensation according to damage to the crops. The process to give compensation after calculating the average of the whole area of crop will be amended.

NEW DELHI: The Centre has asked the Madhya Pradesh Government to submit a plan for rehabilitation of families affected by the Maheshwar hydro-electric project coming up in the State.

This is in response to the State Government's request for Prime Minister's intervention to allow construction of the dam that was suspended for non-compliance of environmental and rehabilitation norms.

At least 393 activists from Indore and all over the country have written to the prime minister to refrain from giving sanction to restart construction on Sardar Sarovar (SSP) and Maheshwar dams on Narmada till the oustees have been completely rehabilitated.

The Narmada Bachao Andolan has urged Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to stand firm on the suspension of the Maheshwar dam construction, and not be swayed by the "propaganda" of the Madhya Pradesh government.

NEW DELHI:Several eminent persons have come out in strong support of the order from the Ministry of Environment and Forests (MoEF) suspending work on the construction of the Maheshwar Dam till the rehabilitation of thousands of displaced families is complete, and have urged Prime Minister Manmohan Singh not to allow any review of the said direction.
