BHUBANESWAR: Six months after floods inflicted extensive damage in several districts, a four member Central team arrived here today to assess the loss and restoration work undertaken by the State Government.

The infant mortality rate (IMR) in India has gone down. According to the latest figures by the Registrar General of India under the Ministry of Home Affairs, while the IMR in 2006 was 57 per 1,000 live births, India reported an IMR of 53 per 1,000 live births in 2008.

Though Governments in India are elected for a five-year term, the first few months set the tone and provide early hints about the course it plans to take.
