SOLAR POWER: Farooq Abdullah, Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy, inaugurating WinWinD

Srinagar: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has expressed confidence that the development of new and renewable energy sector would catapult the rural electrification scenario in the state and asserted that the government would take every step in this direction.

The Cabinet Committee on Infrastructure (CCI) has given its nod for continuation of Remote Village Electrification Programme of the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy during the remaining period of the Eleventh Plan. The total outlay for the programme has been estimated at Rs 867.89 crore during the current plan period.

Farooq Abdullah, Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy, accompanied by a team of senior officers of his ministry, met Governor NN Vohra here today.

Shimla : The Union Ministry of Renewable Energy has agreed in principle to develop Shimla and Hamirpur towns as solar cities and Dr YS Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry, Solan, and National Institute of Technology (NIT), Hamirpur, as energy parks.

Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy Farooq Abdullah said on Thursday that hospitality industry was one of the major potential areas for development and implementation of renewable energy.

JAIPUR: Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy Farooq Abdullah on Thursday held out an assurance that every village in Rajasthan would be supplied with power within the next five years, while pointing out that efforts were being made to establish a solar power project of 3,000 MW to 5,000 MW capacity in the State.

The Rs 2.25 crore Renewable Energy Education Park will finally become a reality by May 2010.
Rechristened as the Rajiv Gandhi Renewable Energy Education Park (RGREEP), the project is expected to give a boost to students as well as tourism in the state.
