After the Rs 66,600-crore farm debt waiver and relief scheme, more relief is on the way to farmers hit by rising prices of fertilisers and other inputs.

The government is planning to raise the limit for the subsidised farm loan from Rs 3 lakh at present to Rs 5 lakh.

BARAMULLA, July 27: To review the implementation of Rural Health Mission in Baramulla district, a meeting of concerned officers was held here yesterday with Secretary Health and Medical Education Department Atal Dullu in chair.
It was given out that out of Rs. 6.22 crore received under the programme during last three years, Rs. 5.35 crore stand expended upto June 2008.
Reviewing the works taken up under RHM, the meeting was told that 51 works have been undertaken under District Plan, NABARD, State sector and BADP registering a cumulative expenditure of over Rs. 64 crore.

The Centre would give first preference to state cooperative banks while reimbursing the debt waiver amount, according to P Mohanaiah, chief general manager, National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (Nabard).

The State Government has taken loan worth Rs 20,145.39 crore as on March 31, 2008. The break-up of the loan amount is Rs 8,259.95 crore (market loan), Rs 2,685.94 crore (Central Government), Rs 489.86 crore (Others), Rs 4,710.53 crore (National Small Saving Fund) and Rs 3,999.19 (State Provident Fund). The per capita loan amount for the State is Rs 6,806.

Deputy Speaker of the Assam Assembly, Pranati Phukan yesterday took stock of the erosion by Dehing river at Jagun village near Naharkatia and announced commencement of anti-erosion works in the affected area. To initiate the anti-erosion project work, Phukan released Rs five lakhs. She also announced that NABARD would step in with Rs 66 lakhs project to check the continuing erosion in the area in the current financial year.
