BHUBANESWAR: Good agriculture growth still eludes the State. As per the mid-term appraisal report of the Eleventh Plan, the growth of agriculture during the period 2005-09 has been only 2.08 per cent.

Due to hard work and help from the state government's Horticulture Department, the life of a medium category farmer Tularam Patel has completely changed. Tularam, a resident of village Mohgaon Kalan in Seoni district, had only 1.20 hectares of land. He used to grow wheat on this land but had to face difficulty in meeting the requirements of his family.

The organic farming project initiated by Prince Charles in 2006, during his visit to Bhattmajra village in the district, has proved to be a failure. According to sources, Charles had sown moong in the farm of one Daya Krishan and the then chief minister Capt Amarinder Singh had given a grant of Rs 60 lakh to the village for promotion of organic farming.
