THE National Board of Wildlife has deferred clearance to the Andhra Pradesh government's proposed dam on Palar river, as the matter is pending before the Supreme Court. The decision was taken at the Standing Committee meeting of the board held on December 22.

THE technical report on `Palar Reservoir and its Salient Features' prepared by the Department of Irrigation and Command Area Development, Andhra Pradesh, over two years ago pointed out that the hydrological clearance has already been accorded for the formation of the dam for utilisation of 600 million cubic metre (mcft) of water.
